In memory of

Philip Alexander Grieve

May 21, 1940 -  January 3, 2017

Philip Alexander Grieve

It is with great sadness and even greater regret to announce the passing of Philip Alexander Grieve with his family by his side on January 3 at the age of 76.

He now joins his parents Harvey (1986) and Muriel (1984). He is survived by his brother David (Lena), and sister Judy (Paul). He is also fondly remembered by nephews Brian, the late Sean, Kevin (Carolyn) nieces Jennifer and Hillary (Richard), as well as many relatives and friends.

In 1993 he retired from Imperial Oil after 27 years of service and since then lead an incredibly modest, independent and largely solitary life. Throughout his years, his greatest passion, horse racing, never abated.

Sadly on December 23, 2016, he had a tragic fall at his residence, and despite all of the professionalism and kindness of the team at Sunnybrook’s ICU, the trauma was just too much.

A private viewing with his immediate family will take place at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, followed by Cremation. His ashes will then be laid to rest alongside his parents at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, his life and memory could be honored at the Parkinson’s Society Canada or Sunnybrook Health Sciences Canada.

And so closes his life here on Earth, but it’s reassuring to know he had the chance to speak to his brother and sister moments before those last fateful steps.
And that the last sight he beheld,
His final glimpses before shaking off this mortal coil,
Was that of what he called his home,
His fortress,
His life,
For the past 60 years.

Now he is in new home,
With his beloved parents.
Forever.

We always exchanged Christmas cards and have fond memories of the times we saw each other. I will cherish the picture we took when my Mom(his Aunt) passed away. RIP Phillip.
