KELLY, PETER THOMAS July 11, 1925 – February 12, 2022 Passed away at his Scarborough home within hours of the 6-year anniversary of his wife Esther's passing. Pete died of old age after living a long healthy life (i.e., walking briskly outdoors every day). He is the beloved father of 5 children: Mary Theresa, Patty, Peter (Cathie Clarke), Danny (Maureen Adams), and Stephen (deceased March 12, 2018); grandfather to Leah, Taryn, Brenna, and Deirdre; and great-grandfather to Lou. He is brother to Ted, Mary, Henry, Pauline, Gerry, and Mike. To support his family, Pete worked more than 20 years for Toronto Peterborough Transportation as a business manager; however, his true passion in life was writing. He penned six novels, numerous short stories, and a television script, his last book a fictional account of the Henry Hudson voyages. Much of his writing focused on moral dilemmas and decisions of conscience. During WWII, Peter served in the Merchant Navy, joining his first ship, the Gatineau Park, in February 1943. He married Esther McCarthy in 1953 and was "initiated" into the McCarthy Clan. In 1973, Pete secured a contract with CIDA and the family moved to Tanzania for a year and a half. Pete was a lifelong supporter of Amnesty International and Plan International. He was known for his quiet introspective nature, and his interest in astronomy and space.
