In memory of

Peter Smyrniotis

October 19, 1938 -  April 9, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Peter Smyrniotis. Devoted husband to Athina. Cherished father of Eric & Mary. Loving father in law to Alex & Zoe and proud grandfather of Isabelle & Peter. He was a gentle soul, adored and loved by everyone who knew him. He loved reading the Sunday Sun newspaper, drinking wine and eating his wife’s delicious meals surrounded by his family. He enjoyed watching James Bond movies and passed along his love for those films to his son Eric. He was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life such as spending quality time with his family & loved ones and going out for Sunday breakfast which became a bit of a tradition. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but we have comfort in knowing that he is with us in spirit and dancing among the angels.

We are so sad to hear of the passing of my uncle, Theo Pete. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. My father always has the best stories about his days in Greece with his brothers and sisters. It’s hard to see him miss his family so much. I’m so sorry we can’t all be together. May his memory be eternal.

Kyriako Smyrniotis (Brother)

.
My brother Peter was born in Louka Tripolis, Greece on October 19, 1938.
Son of Eraklis and Vasiliki Smyrniotis.
Grandson of Panagiotis and Zoitsa Katsianis, from his mother side and
Stefanos and Crysavie Smyrniotis, form his father side. He never met his
grandfather Panagiotis who was killed during WWI when his mother was only 2 years old!
He was named after him!

Peter was twin to Eleni Kalantzis, the older brother of Harry Smyrnioyis, Georgia Gianatselis, Toula Fotopulos and
Kyriakos Smyrniotis. He left Greece in 1958 and made his first visit to Greece on June 1962
to comfort the rest of the family from the death of his father Eraklis, on March 1962.

My brother Peter was there with me as far back as I can remember! My earliest memory was when an
airplane flying in the air (a very rare event in the village then, like a flying sauser now a days!)I was 3 or 4 years old
scared and he was there to protect me! I couldn't wait until he would
come home from work and dance tsamiko with me.

Good things have to come to an end, unfortunatelly. I was heart broken when he left for Canada 1958,
I was about seven years old then. Poverty then prevented me from going with our father to wave goodbye to Peter,
as he was getting on the ship for Canada. And here we are again, on his final voyage, I am unable to be there
and say goodbye! My heart is broken!

I felt blessed to be Peter's little brother! He was a quite man. A gentle guy! Always an active listener.
A fun to be around guy! He would never refuse you a favor.
A very cool guy! Not only in his looks (a very hansome devil!) but the way he handled crises:
never blamed anyone, always do his best looking for solutions.

Peter had a wonderful life, he met a beautiful wife and together raised a beautiful family. I vividly remeber their wedding,
my wife and I drove from Chicago, just like we have done on many other family gatherings!
I have wonderful memories of my brother Peter, these memories will be with me as long as I live.

Call it bad luck call it anything else, Peter suffered a lot! Parkisons is a terible disease I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
He is now free of pain and suffering! I know he is in good hands now, I am sure in the welcoming arms of our parents
and sister Eleni.I know some day we will all be together but until then I will miss him sorely.

May his memory be eternal!

Your loving brother Kyriakos
