Pelvi Oolup

November 18, 1947 -  September 23, 2016

Pilvi Oolup, 68, died peacefully on September 23, 2016 at St. Peter’s hospital in Hamilton after a 9 month battle with cancer. Pilvi, the youngest child of the late Oskar and Alviine, was born on November 18, 1947 in Boras, Sweden. Pilvi was a formidable baby sister to Bruno, Valve, Osvald and Simmo. The family was forced to leave Hiiumaa, Estonia by the Communist invasion of WWII. They made their way to Toronto via Pier 21 in Halifax in 1952. Pilvi attended Riverdale Collegiate and graduated from the University of Toronto’s School of Nursing. She embarked on a long career as an RN at Toronto East General Hospital, taught at Centennial College and at McMaster University in the Nursing Baccalaureate program. Her last position was at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She was a member of the Estonian Indla sorority where she maintained many lifelong friends. Pilvi will be missed by her brother, sisters-in-law and her many nieces and nephews and their families. Memorial service will be held at York Visitation Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, 416-221-3404 Toronto on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 10 am with Pastor Juri Puusaag presiding. Many thanks to the caring staff at St. Peter’s. In lieu of flowers, donations to CHIRS, Canadian Head Injury Resource Services, would be appreciated.
