In memory of

Peggy Jane Phillips

December 27, 1936 -  November 28, 2024

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Peggy Jane Phillips on November 28th, 2024, at the age of 87.

Born on December 27th, 1936, to Cyril and Jane Rose, Peggy grew up on beautiful, vast farmland in Sanguinetti, Clarendon in Jamaica. She had fond memories of rural life with her parents, ten siblings, and extended family members.

After briefly studying at business school in New York at the age of 18, Peggy moved to Kingston, Jamaica where she worked as a bookkeeping assistant for the United Fruit Company. During those seven years, Peggy lived with her aunt Vie, a beloved mentor and guide. Peggy’s spiritual faith grew strong during this time, and she dedicated her life to following Jesus Christ, something which was transformational throughout her years.
In Kingston, Peggy met David Phillips through the church; after he moved to Canada, they began a long-distance relationship for several years. In June of 1962, Peggy and David got married in Kingston, then left to start their new adventure together in Toronto, Canada.

Peggy was a devoted mother of four, homemaker, and active member of their church, Leaside Bible Chapel. She was very fond of sewing, knitting, gardening, and walking. She had a lovely singing voice which the family often heard happily praising the Lord. Spending time with her grandchildren was one of her greatest pleasures. Even after the death of David in 1994, Peggy retained her deep sense of faith, gratitude, and joy. She was known as a warm, loving woman to everyone who encountered her and was committed to helping and praying for friends and family.

Peggy is survived by her children Dwight, Ruth, Bentley (Rose), and Esther (Mike), her three granddaughters, Julia, Hannah, and Mia, as well as her two remaining sisters, Korah and Sissy. She will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Friday December 6th, 2024, at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, located at 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, ON M4T 2V8. The family will welcome visitors at 10:30am, after which the service will begin at 11:00am. This will be followed by refreshments and fellowship. Dear Dwight, Ruth, Ben & Rose, and Esther & Mike, Julia, Hannah, and Mia,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of your beautiful mum and feel privileged to have met her during my Laurier days. She was such a remarkable woman whose kindness, hospitality, and godly nature were a blessing to all who knew her. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire us.

May you all be comforted that she is no longer in pain and suffering but rejoicing with our Lord Jesus in heaven.

May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family,
Matt, Evelyn, Annabelle & Chris Meek

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of this beautiful soul. Peggy and Dickie welcomed our family into their home when we arrived in Toronto in September, 1965, emigrating from Jamaica, and taught us the ropes of this new life in this new country. Her obituary is so beautiful. She was a dedicated prayer warrior, and our deep condolences go out to her family. She is out of her pain and with her Saviour. Losing a mother is one of the hardest losses, but you know we will see her again one day. Our love and prayers. Beth & my brother, Paul (Rennalls)
