In memory of

Paul Roditis

June 11, 1926 -  March 22, 2025

Paul Roditis, 98, of Toronto, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of resilience, music, and faith. Born in Athens, Greece. Paul lived through the trials of World War II and later served as a Sergeant in a tank division with courage and determination.

Paul and his wife Rosa immigrated to Canada in 1965. Together, they built a life until her passing in 2022. A skilled mechanic and transmission specialist by trade, Paul’s hands were as adept at fixing engines as they were at bringing music to life. A passionate music lover, he played the guitar, accordion, and harmonica with skill and joy, and in his later years, he taught himself to play the piano at the retirement home, delighting fellow residents with his melodies.

Paul was a devoted member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church for over 40 years, where he volunteered tirelessly and found strength in his faith. His warm spirit and generous nature touched everyone he met, from his family to his community.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Kim) Roditis and Maria (Darwin) Ortiz, his granddaughter, Christine (Mike) Roditis and his great-grandchild, Tristan Ladewig, all of whom will carry his memory forward. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa, and leaves behind a lifetime of stories, songs, and love.

Paul's life serves as an inspiration to all who knew him. He lived with purpose, laughter, and music, and he will be deeply missed.

Paul’s music may have quieted, but its echo will resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.

May his memory be eternal.

Visitation will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Thorncliffe Park Drive East, East York on Wednesday March 26th, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. - Service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough - Section 13.

Our deepest condolences to Mr. Roditis' family. He was a beautiful soul whose kindness, talents and gentleness will stay with me forever. I will always remember playing with Maria surrounded by the joy and love of her parents. Their home was always full of music, laughter, great stories and amazing food. We will miss this wonderful person, as we have missed his wonderful wife.

Dear Roditis family, and cousins Maria and Jim, please accept our family's condolences on the passing of your beloved father, Pavlos. May he rest in peace, together with your beloved Mother of blessed memory, Roza, his lifelong companion.

I remember uncle Pavlos clearly when I was a young boy in Athens, and liked visiting him at his Ford garage and also visiting with Roza and Jim who was older than me by a few years. Uncle Pavlos was a kind and interesting man, and his physical bearing, his height and demeanor are still clearly in my mind these many decades since Athens of the 1960's.

Although I don't recall uncle Pavlos playing music, I am not at all surprised that he had this talent, as it must me in our heritage somewhere, and in that both our boys played (and play) music - in their case violin. I am delighted to read uncle Pavlos's love of playing music on so many instruments to the enjoyment of people in his company, and of his work for with the Church and his community.

May God rest uncle Pavlos's soul and may his loving memory be eternal.

With sympathy and affection to the Roditis family,
