In memory of

Paul Nolan

February 21, 1941 -  June 10, 2024

Paul’s deep faith sustained him through several difficult years of declining mobility, and he died peacefully on June 10th. Paul spent the first half of his adult life as an Irish Christian Brother, teaching in Newfoundland, Montreal, and Vancouver. After moving to Toronto, he continued teaching at several schools, ending his long career as a teacher and guidance counsellor at Saint John Paul II Catholic secondary school in Scarborough. His fellow teachers describe Paul as gentle, calm, generous and caring. They say he made a big difference in the lives of many students. Paul was an avid athlete who also coached football, basketball, volleyball and track. He loved golf, hiking and cross-country skiing. He was a dedicated football fan who travelled often to Notre Dame with close friends to watch the Fighting Irish win. Paul will be deeply missed by his wife Louise, his daughter Julia, his many friends, and his family in Newfoundland, including his brother John, his sisters Anne and Kay and the extended family. He was predeceased by his oldest sister Mary.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Paul’s favourite charity, Operation Smile Canada.

There will be a service, followed by a light lunch with an opportunity to share memories of Paul at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, starting at 11am on Monday June 24th.

The family will also have a celebration of Paul’s life this summer in Newfoundland.

We are sad to hear of Paul's passing. We have always enjoyed Paul and Louise's company, in their home or ours, sharing delicious food and fun stories. We were fascinated by his adventures of his former life as a Brother and inspired by his constant gentle kindness. We hope he is in a place where he's no longer physically uncomfortable and can do all his favourite activities.
Much love,
Kathy & Darren

I was so sorry to hear of Paul's death. We were good friends from our days in the Christian Brothers. We both loved the game of baseball and Paul was a great player. My sympathy to Louise and Julia. Paul was a good and kind man.
