In memory of

Paul John Barrans

March 15, 1946 -  January 12, 2024

Paul John Barrans, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12th, at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Paul was a beloved husband and friend to Julette Barrans (nee Donalds) and Lynda Barrans (nee Ellis) - deceased, father to Lisa (Gary), grandfather to Logan, brother to Joyce, Pat, Peter, Elizabeth, Mary (deceased), Jane and Michele, uncle and friend to many.

Paul, son of Elizabeth (Betty) and Leslie (Les) was born and raised in the east end of Toronto where he attended Neil McNeil. A sharp mind for numbers, he entered a career in business and the budding field of computers. This opened opportunities to work and travel around the world, including exploring the continent of Asia while working in Saudi Arabia in the early 80’s. He loved to share stories of his experiences including the people he met, the food he consumed, the culture and lifestyles he explored.

His career landed him at Bell Canada where he worked, for almost 25 years until he retired, across many divisions from training, to sales, to administration. His affability transcended both his work and personal life. An avid fisherman, outdoorsman, car enthusiast and golfer, he loved to be outdoors whether camping in the backcountry of Quebec, ice fishing on Lake Simcoe, cruising the city in his convertible, or hunting for his golf ball in the rough, he made the most of every experience and made it even better for those who joined along for the ride.

Paul was larger than life. He made friends everywhere he went, with his humour, his generosity and his care and kindness for others. He always made time for people in his life, to listen, to counsel and to share stories. He could make everyone laugh and feel at ease, often while preparing or sharing a meal. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.

The family asks if donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Michael Garron Hospital in thanks for their compassion over the many years of care.

Services will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery and Funeral Centre. Visitation on Friday, January 19th from 4 – 8 p.m. and Saturday, January 20th from 9 – 10 a.m, with funeral service to follow from 10 – 11 a.m.

Dear Paul; although I didn’t spend a lot of time with you, I did know you, through Lisa and Dave. I can see so much of your personality has left an indelible mark on their character. You will continue to shine through them, and undoubtedly through all others whose lives you touched. May you Rest In Peace for eternity.

I met Paul on a business call and we instantly became friends. I sold quality office coffee and Paul loved all things quality.

Paul became my best friend, whether it was fishing, camping, shooting pool, golfing or sitting over a few drinks, we always laughed to the point of tears. Life as a friend of Pauls was always an adventure. Just writing this I am flooded with happy memories.

Paul was most proud of Lisa and her accomplishments, every conversation we would have he always bragged about his daughter. When she became pregnant Paul was beside himself. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandson.

I remember when Paul first met Jewelette, he called me to tell me about this cleaning lady that caught his eye. It was not long after they were married. Of course like all good marriages there would be good times and bad but through all Paul had a deep love and appreciation for Jewelette.

I deeply miss my buddy.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends
