Paul George Szasz

August 3, 1938 -  January 20, 2017

SZASZ, Paul George. At home, after a long illness. Survived by his loving wife Maria, children Krista, Karl (Helaine) and Nicholas (Emiko); grandchildren Philip, Michael and Andrew; sister Vera Dowd and family. Predeceased by his first wife, Madeline (1932-1986).

Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1928, Paul immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister in 1947.He graduated from Ryerson in 1952 with a degree in Chemistry. A pioneer in the reinforced plastics industry, with his classmate he co-founded Protective Plastics, a dynamic manufacturing firm still operating today. Former chairman of SPI Canada, and 1976 Plastic Industry’s ‘Man of the Year,’ he also co-founded the Toronto’s first Montessori School.

After Hungary’s 1956 Revolution, he organised and sponsored twenty refugee families to come to Canada. He was a proud Canadian with a lifelong interest in the arts and a generous contributor to Toronto General Hospital Cardiology and Neurology. In lieu of flowers, please donate to same.

Visitation at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre- 375 Mount Pleasant Road on Tuesday, January 24th from 5-8 pm and on Wednesday, January 25th from 10:30-11 am followed by a Service in our Chapel at 11 am. Burial.
