In memory of

Patrick Nelson McKenzie

September 7, 1931 -  September 24, 2024

It is with deep sadness we announce that Patrick, 93, passed away peacefully after a long arduous battle with cancer.

He now joins his beloved wife Ethel Phyllis McKenzie (nee Henry) of 53 years.
Born and raised in Georgetown, Guyana, Patrick studied at Queen's college in Georgetown. In 1962 Patrick moved to Toronto and sponsored Ethel so she could join him. A year later he married Ethel in Toronto before moving to Fort McMurray, Alberta to work with Syncrude as a Chemical Engineer. Patrick enjoyed travelling with his wife and they visited several countries and made many friends wherever they went. Telling jokes and breaking into song was part of his charm.

In 1969 Patrick and Ethel sponsored her niece, Pamela, and raised her as their own. Patrick and Ethel later went on to become grandparents to Pamela's children, Natasha and Erika. They treasure and share many fond memories of him.

He is predeceased by his parents Alfred McKenzie and Jane McKenzie (nee Christopher,) 3 of 4 siblings - Clarence (Vilma), Mavis (Lawrence), and Kenneth, and his wife, Ethel. He is survived by his brother George (Celeste) and many nieces/great nieces and nephews/great nephews.
Patrick enjoyed tending to his garden, cooking, reading, taking photographs, keeping up to date with international news, taking care of Ethel and daily walks to the local mall.

Overall, Patrick had a full, rich life filled with music, learning, worldwide travel, family and friends. Those who knew him found him to be kind, friendly and always smiling and though his departure left many with sorrow his family and friends will long remember his candour, humour, the poems he recited and the world facts he shared.

In honour of Patrick and the amazing care he received over the last four years, in lieu of flowers, donations to the following organizations would be greatly appreciated:

• Peel Senior Link
• Princess Margaret Hospital (Sarcoma Clinic)
• Credit Valley Hospital (Palliative Care Dept)
• Dorothy Ley Hospice

A graveside service will be held at the scattering platform at Meadowvale Cemetery, 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton on Saturday October 5, 2024 at 1 p.m.

Remembering Uncle Patrick as a very happy person, I remember in 1992 there was a fire in the apartment where I used to live, it was about 6am in the morning when I heard a loud explosion within minutes there was a knocking at my door asking me to leave because there was a fire, I quickly wake up my 7 yrs old son and my 3year old daughter and ran down the stairs for I was on the 12 th floor we made it out safely and joined the rest of tenants who was already outside, as I looked up there I saw my uncle Patrick and my aunt Ethel running toward us ,for he was looking at the morning news when he saw that the apartment I was living was on fire. He took us to him home where we spent the rest of this until it was safe for us to go back to our apartment. I always thank him for that, about 5yrs ago he came to my house in brampton and we stil talk about it, RIP uncle Patrick. JESUS ONLY TAKE THE BEST
