In memory of

Patricia Pacita Hakim

May 24, 1938 -  July 8, 2022

On Friday, July 8, 2022 in her 84th year, the Hakim family, extended family and dear friends lost a treasured, loving and wonderful lady.

Patricia Maria Pacita (Paz) Hakim was the cherished daughter of the late Lutgarda and Jesus Crisologo Mendoza.

Patricia is survived by her adoring husband, Abe Hakim and was a loving and devoted mother to their son Omar (Lisa) Hakim and daughter, Farrah (Jeff) Kayyali.

She was a devoted and caring grandmother to her grandchildren Xion, Taylor, Paz, Ryan and Ellah.

She was also a loving sister to Theresa (Gony) San Agustin, and her late brothers Ramon (Elizabeth, Rebecca) Mendoza and Antony Mendoza and her nieces, nephews and families.

Patricia was born in the Philippines and graduated from The University of Santo Tomas in Manila. She moved to Chicago, IL USA and graduated from the School of Nursing at Saint Xavier University. After working briefly at the Hamilton General Hospital, she moved to Toronto and began a career in Pediatrics, first at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto and then at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough for 28 years until early retirement.

She met the love of her life Abe Hakim in Toronto in 1962 and they married in 1967. She had a true passion for her career in nursing and enjoyed her work with newborn babies immensely, never tiring to be at the hospital in the paediatric ward. Throughout the years, she cherished every moment with her husband & family, extended family and dear friends. She loved opera, classical music, and was classically trained in the violin and piano. Her favourite composer was Puccini, her favourite operas La Boheme and Madam Butterly. She loved the 3 tenors but her absolute favourite tenor was Sir Colm Wilkinson, whom she took almost every family member to see in Toronto and New York in his performances of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webbers, Phantom and Les Mis. She was an enthusiastic foodie and enjoyed trying delicious dishes and desserts from all cultures and countries. She was a lady of faith and God’s word remained an important part of her upbringing and life.

Her best friends, whom she spent most of her time with, were her husband, son/daughter (in-law), daughter/son (in-law) and her grandchildren. These many years, we have traveled, cottaged, and just hung out enjoying doing so many things together as a loving and connected family. This was the greatest joy in her life, to be surrounded by her best friends. She will be dearly missed and every memory cherished.

We love you Patsy, Mom, Grandma. You are forever in our hearts.

"But there's a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begin".
