In memory of

Patricia McLaughlin

January 12, 1956 -  December 12, 2019

Patricia Jane (Patti) McLaughlin passed away suddenly at Scarborough Grace Hospital on Thursday, December 12, 2019, one month before her 64th birthday.

Patti’s prodigious talent in visual arts emerged when she was still a small child. Unfortunately, schizophrenia made it impossible for her to forge a career in the arts. Despite her struggles, she had a kind heart and a sweet nature that were sometimes masked by her illness.

During her last years she lived in a group home managed by A1 Lifestyle Harmony Corp. in Scarborough, Ontario. She was a caring friend to fellow residents and she performed volunteer work in the community. Patti’s family would like to thank staff and residents at her group home for the support and stability they gave her.

Patti will be missed by siblings Hooley McLaughlin and his wife Danielle, Jennifer McLaughlin, Hermine McLaughlin and Jane Scea and her husband Wally, nephews and nieces Raquel Brown, Gabrielle McLaughlin, Reuben McLaughlin (Petra) and Levi McLaughlin (Lauren), her aunt Barbara Ketchen (Douglas, deceased) and cousins David and Patricia Rutherford, Mary Rutherford, Robert Ketchen and Jesse Rutherford and her other relatives and friends.

Patti was predeceased by her mother Mary McLaughlin (nee Bell) in 1985 and her father Edward (Ted) McLaughlin in 2012.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, Ontario at 12.00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to consider donations to charities that address the needs of those living with schizophrenia.
