With her loving family by her side, after a long and courageous journey with dementia, Patricia Schuchardt passed away peacefully at the age of 75.
Remembered as a devoted and caring mother, Patricia leaves behind her children, Coreen (Steve) and Travis (Tammy); her beloved grandchildren Ryan, Raine, Detlin, Arielle (Denis), and Jimmy; and her cherished great-grandchildren Chase, Chloe, Kaelyn, and Kyrin. She also shared a lifelong connection with her former spouse, Mario, who remained a supportive part of her life. Patricia came from a large family of 8 siblings, created by her late parents, Terrance and Lorraine.
Born and raised in Toronto, Patricia was known for her incredible artistic talent and warm sense of humor, bringing joy and comfort to all. Starting her own family, Patricia became a dedicated stay-at-home mom during her children’s early years, cooking, sewing, baking, while pouring love and creativity into her country home.
Once both of her kids attended school full time, Patricia pursued a successful career in retail, ultimately co-owning Canadian Tire stores with stops in Ontario, Manitoba, and B.C. Throughout these stops, Patricia found joy in sailing, camping, and watching live theater.
A vibrant and active woman, Patricia embraced the outdoors, taking long walks or starting her day off with a dip in the pool. When it came time to relax, Patricia liked a nice glass of wine paired with a good true crime book. She had a special place in her heart for animals big and small, carnations, and the music of Rod Stewart.
Patricia had a true sense of adventure and a deep curiosity about the world, which led her to travel extensively around the globe in her later life. Visiting places like Australia, Fiji, Egypt, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Turkey, England, Spain, and experiences she cherished and often spoke of with joy. With the Galapagos Islands being one of her favorite adventures.
Patricia you are now free to go where the next journey takes you.
Always in our hearts until we meet again. Xoxo
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Winbourne Park and Ontario Shores for their dedicated and loving care throughout Patricia’s journey.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together and remember Patricia with love and laughter.
In honour of Patricia, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Durham Region.
