Paris Savides B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., P.Eng., PMP 1964-2023
Paris Savides has died on July 20, 2023 in Toronto, with his family by his side, having lived courageously and graciously with Merkel Cell Carcinoma for several months.
Paris was born in 1964 in Nicosia, Cyprus to Maria Angeli and Theodoros Hadjisavides. He graduated from Acropolis Gymnasium A in 1981 then served his mandatory 2 years in the military, having added clarinet to his instrument repertoire so he could join the Military Music branch. In 1983 he came to Canada to study Civil Engineering at Queen’s University. He made lifelong friends throughout the university, but especially within Sc’87. He stayed at Queen’s for his Master’s degree, then in 1990 started work as a structural engineer with Dillon Consulting. In 1998 he moved to the Toronto Transit Commission, working as a senior project engineer then project manager, most recently in the Construction department of the Engineering, Construction and Expansion group.
Paris is survived by his wife Jill Baker, his son Alexander MacDonald Savides (Simone Markus), his daughter Cleo MacDonald Savides (Michael McCreesh), his grandson Theodore Henry Markus Savides, his mother Maria Hadjisavides and his sister Daphne Savides (Efi Georgiou). Paris is also survived by his mother-in-law Phyllis Baker and his former wife Mary MacDonald Rival (Mark Rival).
Paris was a kind man who delighted in making connections; he will be deeply missed.
There will be an informal reception to celebrate his life Thursday, August 10, 4-8 at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Rd, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unicef Canada, the Kingston Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
