Panagiotis (Peter) Protogeros, a beacon of kindness and love, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on May 8, 2024, in Toronto. Born on October 17, 1937, in Agrinio, Greece, Peter's journey was one marked by compassion, thoughtfulness, and dedication to his family. A devoted father and grandfather, Peter was a pillar of strength and kindness, touching the lives of all who knew him. His family and friends will deeply miss his gentle spirit, support, and boundless love. A man with an unwavering faith in God, he faced and overcame numerous challenges with grace and humility.
Peter's early years in Greece laid the foundation for a life of resilience and joy. His ability to find happiness in the simplest of things was a trait that endeared him to many. As a young man, he made the momentous decision to move to Toronto in the 1960s, where he would go on to build a life rich in love and community.
In Toronto, Peter met and married the love of his life, Maria Panagiotidis, who predeceased him. Together, they raised a family that became Peter's pride and joy. He was a devoted father to Eleni Christou (Paul) and Dimitrios Protogeros. His role as a grandfather to Anastasia, Athanasios, Alexandra, and Panagiotis was one he cherished deeply. Peter's love extended to his siblings, Kostas, Eleftheria, and George, and he held a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews in Greece, Canada and the US.
Those who knew Peter were touched by his kindness and thoughtfulness. He had an innate ability to listen with a compassionate ear and offer words of support that would uplift anyone's spirits. His love for his family was his guiding star, and he instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of respect, generosity, and the importance of keeping family bonds strong.
