In memory of

Olivier Prossy Ssebuliba

December 23, 1955 -  May 23, 2024

With great sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life lived with unmatched zest and spirit, we bid farewell to Olivier Prossy Ssebuliba, a beloved pillar of her community, who peacefully departed with her loved ones by her side on May 23, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario.

Born on December 23, 1955, in Mityana, Uganda, to George William Ssebuliba and Mary Augustine Namayanga, Olivier embarked on a remarkable journey that led her to touch countless lives across continents. Her adventurous spirit knew no bounds as she ventured from Uganda to Kenya to Germany to London and beyond, where she dedicated herself to the noble cause of the United Nations. With only a suitcase and her best friend, she ultimately made Canada her cherished home in 1989 allowing her children to have the best life imaginable.

In the embrace of Toronto, alongside her beloved partner Festus Ikechukwu Nnadi (d. 2000), Olivier flourished, nurturing a haven of love and joy where all were welcomed with open arms. Her legacy of compassion and devotion continued through her 31 years of service with Toronto Child Services, where she tirelessly worked to make her city safer and more nurturing for its children.

Olivier's home was not merely a dwelling; it was a sanctuary of warmth and celebration, where laughter resounded and friendships flourished for family and friends; and anyone lucky enough to knock at the door. A passionate observer of the world around her, she engaged in spirited debates on matters both local and global, her wisdom and insight leaving an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to hear.

Her boundless joie de vivre found expression in the rhythm of her dance, the sharing of delicious meals, and the raising of countless toasts to cherished memories. Olivier's magnetic presence made her the heart and soul of every gathering, her storytelling prowess weaving tales of adventure and resilience that captivated all who listened.

Olivier's legacy will live on through her surviving children, Chinoyelem Nnadi-Bridger and Chidiebere Nnadi whom she loved so selflessly and unconditionally, along with her cherished siblings, nieces and nephews spanning the globe.

The church service will be on Tuesday June 4th at 1:30pm at Saint Maria Goretti Parish located at 717 Kennedy Rd and officiated by Father Elias Chachati. She will be laid to rest at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre located at 625 Birchmount Rd. in Toronto. In keeping with her wishes, the service will be followed by a joyous reception filled with music, laughter, and "good beers" – a fitting tribute to a life lived to the fullest.

Olivier believed in helping others with humility and sincerity. Throughout her life she worked behind the scenes to aid others in need, often without them knowing. In this same spirit, to honour her memory we would like to extend our support to the patients at North York General Hospital, where she received compassionate care during her courageous battle with cancer.

In partnership with the North York General Hospital Foundation and her Palliative Care Team, we have set up a donation in her name to go DIRECTLY to patients now facing a similar challenge to hers, who may not have the same support systems.

To those who would like to donate, here is the link: www.nyghfoundation.ca/Olivier

In the words of Olivier herself, "you're going to need to put me in a museum," for there will never be another soul as radiant, as beloved, as uniquely unforgettable as she. Her spirit will forever illuminate our lives, a beacon of love and light guiding us through the times ahead. To those who knew her, we are truly the lucky ones.

Bonne nuit Olivier!

I was taken aback and saddened when I heard of Olivier's passing. I had pictured her spending her retirement years joyfully with her family for a long time.
I will always remember her as full of life. Her laughter, with her twinkling eyes, always tickled me. She and I (a Filipina by birth), bonded over the Queen's English and the Royal Family. We even have a shared experience with her little wig and a windy day which I will always treasure in my heart.

Please accept my deepest sympathy and yet I hope that these little stories will bring some consolation over the loss of your dear Olivier. I will keep her and the whole family in my prayers. Eternal rest grant to Olivier, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
