In memory of

Olga Romic

January 5, 1933 -  October 4, 2020

In Loving Memory.
Olga Romic passed away on Sunday October 4, 2020 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto at the age of 87. Married to Nikola for 60 years, Olga was a beloved mother to Marina (John) and Alexandra (Lou), and an incomparable Bubi to her grandchildren Andrew and Lauren. She was predeceased by her brother Miodrag of Junkovac, Serbia.

Olga made a few big moves in her life — leaving her native Serbia in 1964 for Paris, France and from there to Toronto in 1966. Through her determination and hard work, she was able to create a loving, comfortable home and life for her family. Despite the upheavals of moving to an unfamiliar place, Olga’s strength and resilience helped her adapt to the challenges of a new country and language. She embraced her Canadian identity and proudly displayed the flag in her window on Canada Day.

Olga was expert in a variety of skills, especially in the culinary arts. Her recipes were eagerly sought, but very rarely duplicated. She loved to cook for her grandchildren, who were often disappointed with their parents’ attempts to replicate Bubi’s cooking. “Not like Bubi’s” was generally the verdict. What made some of her meals so special was the personal touch of adding ingredients that she grew in her own garden. Her green thumb was the envy of friends, neighbours and family alike.

Olga was tireless in her commitment and devotion to her family. Her generosity, loving heart and kindness also touched everyone she met, whether they be new friends or lifelong companions. Olga, Mom, Bubi… you will be missed.

Many heartfelt thanks to the caring nurses and doctors at St. Michael’s Hospital, the PSWs at Circle of Care and staff of the Central East Local Health Integration Network – your extraordinary support, dedication and kindness are very much appreciated.

I've known Kuma Olga since grade school, mid 1960s. Kuma Olga was a saint on earth, when we visited she would make the tastiest baked goods and she was a great cook and always treated all who were lucky to visit her and Kum Nikola to the best food. She always had a kind and wise word to say to us. My father said that she was a woman he truly respected, as we all did. She was a bright shining light to all who knew her. God Rest Her Sweet Soul🙏
I will truly miss her loving, wise words⚘
I love you Kuma Olga❤

Our most heartfelt condolences to dear Mr. Romic, Alexandra, Marina and families from the Kreidler and Gregg families. We had the honour of being neighbours with the Romics growing up and my parents have known and loved Mr. & Mrs. Romic for over 45 years.

Mrs. Romic was the epitome of kindness, generosity and pure love. I remember coming home from school with no key and going over to her house until my parents were home, where she stuffed me with homemade pizza, cookies, cakes, breads and snacks. She would always send over samplings of homemade cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers, cheese- and sausage-stuffed pastries, Christmas cookies, soups and the list goes on--all sumptuous, and all obviously made with so much TLC.

Mrs. Romic has always been a true friend and helping neighbour to my parents all these years, with warm meals passed between their homes, and one helping the other whenever they could. She was also so loved by our children, who she always showered with chocolates and kikis, and beautifully coloured eggs at Easter.

The street won't be the same without her, and she will be sorely missed by us all. We will continue to celebrate the beautiful life she lived, and the beautiful soul she shared. And we will remember that verifiable sparkle in her eyes and her infectious smile that so warmed our hearts.

We all loved you dearly, Mrs. Romic, and our hearts are with your family during this most difficult time. xo
