In memory of
Norma Estelle Vanderwert
July 30, 1940 -
February 8, 2023
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Estelle. She died peacefully on February 8th, 2023, at the age of 82. She was a strong and loving wife to Ron and beloved mother to Rick (Lynne). She will be sorely missed by her sisters Eleanor (Carlyle-predeceased), Eunice (Desmond-predeceased), Elaine (Ed), and brother Randolph (predeceased by her sister, Claribel, and brothers Cecil and Eric). She will also be missed, here in Canada, by Sister in-law Jennifer(Ron), Brother in-law Aubrey(Brenda) and Brother in-law Annesley. She was born in Colombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and loved by her parents (predeceased) Clarence and Marguerite McHeyzer. She married Ron on August 31st, 1961, and gave birth to Rick in September 1962, the three emigrating to Canada in 1964, where they reunited with her family. Estelle and Ron had been married for over 61 years and have raised their family and built their home in Toronto, Canada. Estelle, after spending several years working at the East General Hospital, as a ward clerk, joined her sisters Claribel and Eleanor at Bell Canada and had a long and successful career for over 25 years, up until retirement. She always enjoyed spending time with her son Rick and Lynne and their family, Jody (Warren), Tracey (John), Craig (Tanya) and dearly loved being a Great Grandmother to Graydon, Stephanie, Carter, Avery and Brendan.
Estelle and Ron loved to join in on family get-togethers, picnics, New Year’s Eve, house parties, and also was involved in the start up of the Sri Lankan social club, “Connection’s 55”, a club that brought together many family and friends for dances, theme nights and various local trips. Estelle and Ron also liked to travel and visit their relatives across the world, visiting family in England, Sweden and Australia. She will be missed greatly by her numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all those who were privileged to meet and know her. Estelle was strong-willed, had the biggest and kindest heart and was always there to help her family and friends.
There will be a private internment with family , followed by a celebration of life for family and friends, to be held at Pine Hills Cemetery, (see address on this site) on April 15th, 2023, at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
