In memory of

Norene Edith Walton

January 29, 1927 -  December 23, 2021

Norene Walton passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2021 surrounded by her two children, Ron and Wendy, her daughter-in-law Norma, and her six grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Kieron, Conor, Shannon and Shivaun. She was one month shy of her next birthday. Her husband of over 50 years, Gordon, predeceased her as did her five siblings. She was born in Prince Edward Island to a large immediate and extended family. She met and married her husband Gordon while working in Nova Scotia, and they migrated to Toronto in the late sixties when Imperial Oil moved its head office. Norene had a strong faith and was a keen churchgoer. She was musical, had a beautiful and trained soprano voice and could play piano wonderfully by sight. Singing in various choirs she performed at many events and often at senior centres. Community minded, she volunteered at her church, the Heart and Stroke foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society and local senior centres for which she was honoured. Daring and progressive in her younger years, she played golf, was a member of the local gun club and traveled through the United States and Canada, subsequently moving across the country with a girlfriend. She continued to travel in her later years through Canada, the US and Europe. On a memorable trip to England, she reunited with her sister and her large family. Always eager to learn, she was an avid reader and enjoyed a good discussion on politics and worldly topics. She had a green thumb; her indoor and outdoor gardens were full of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Norene adored her family and spent many a happy afternoon with her children, Ron and Wendy, her daughter-in-law Norma, her son-in-law Stef, and her six grandchildren. She was a delicious and healthy cook and baker and she was always up for an adventure with family and friends. A smart, dynamic, caring and well-dressed lady, Norene was deeply loved and her legacy and memories will be cherished.

The funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church at 1 Greenland Road in North York this Wednesday, January 5th at 1pm. The Reverend Dr. Harris Athanasiadis will be presiding. Snacks will be offered after the funeral, followed by burial at York Cemetery on Beecroft Road in North York.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tammy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Attention Dr. Jennifer Arvanitis, Mt. Sinai Hospital, 60 Murray Street, 4th Floor, Toronto, Ontario, M5T 3L9 would be appreciated.
