In memory of

Nora Thelma Stone

March 19, 1927 -  February 5, 2021

Nora Stone, cherished friend to many in Fergus and devoted member of the Knox-Elora Presbyterian church, died on February 5th, 2021 at Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Nora led an extraordinary life. Born in Grassie, Ontario in 1927 to Alfred Kettle and Leola Kettle (née Hysert), she inherited her mother’s pioneer spirit and navigated her life with strength, resilience and grace.
Nora raised four children—William, Kenneth and Noralee Stone and the late Cynthia Webb. True to her independence, she entered the workforce in the early 1960s to help provide for her family. During this time she met the late Albert McCaffery who, 30 years later, would become her beloved life partner. She lived in over 15 Canadian cities, including Victoria BC, where she cultivated her love of gardening—finally settling in Belwood with Albert, which she described as the happiest years of her life.
The eldest of six, Nora is survived by siblings Muriel Rogers, Leola Tucar and Earland and Alfred Kettle. She will be deeply missed by her grandson Jamie (Melody Lochhead) Webb, granddaughter Nancy Webb and great-granddaughter Lucy June Webb.
A Celebration of Life will be held in May at Meadowvale Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Knox-Elora Presbyterian Church. The family extends their gratitude to the incredible nurses and staff at Groves Memorial Community Hospital

You’re memory and spirit will live on within the heart and soul of many. I never had the pleasure of meeting Nora, but I know her through the eyes and memories of her grandson, Jamie, who’s love and appreciation is endless. Jamie spoke of you often, and I know you were an inspiration to him. May you rest peacefully.

I enjoyed a friendship with Nora in the past five years that we lived in the same condo building. Nora had many stories to tell. She was very proud of her two grandchildren Jamie and Nancy and was excited when she became a great grandmother to Lucy. He was up to date on all that was going on in the world and lived an interesting life. I will miss her.

As I looked through this superb memorial site, it reminded me of Nora's love for gardens. When Nora would visit her daughter ( Cyndy) in Milton often before entering our house Nora and Cyndy would walk through our garden and stop and discuss every plant along the way.
Nora was a wondeful grandmother always interested in their lives and helping out in many ways.
My deepest condolences to those close to Nora ,including Jamie and Nancy.
