It is with extreme sadness and immensely heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Nikolaos (Niko) Kotsopoulos on Friday, June 6, 2025 in Oshawa, Ontario at the age of 78 years.
Devoted father to George (Robyn) and Christine (Marlon). Loving Dedo/Pappou to 4 grandchildren: Alex, Traejan, Avaiya and Lily.
Loyal brother to Danny, who was his best friend and Uncle to Jessica (Ariyeh) and Tony (Kristen). Great Uncle to Olivia, Evelyn, Reagan, Austin and Zoe.
Niko was born in Vevi, Florina, Greece on September 12, 1946 to George Kotsopoulos and Zoe (Zia) Kotsopoulos (Ambas). Unfortunately, Niko’s father passed away when Niko was a child. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada on May 10, 1968 after serving in the Greek military to join his family who had already made the move for a better life in Canada. Soon afterwards he started his own family, marrying Angela Kotsopoulos (Mintsis) and having two children, George and Christine.
During his new life in Canada, Niko spent some time working as a crane operator. After working hard to learn the restaurant business alongside his extended family members, he was able to open several successful restaurants with his wife and brother. Niko worked hard and enjoyed his holidays, especially travelling and vacationing around the world. He wanted the best for his children, providing them with many things he was not able to have as a child.
Niko enjoyed sports, occasionally playing soccer barefoot on the grass and often taking his children to watch the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. His children and grandchildren continued that love for sports, which he enjoyed watching and cheering them on from the sidelines. Niko enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whether that was taking them to school, treating them to McDonald’s, or Tim Hortons or simply going for a drive. He was incredibly proud of all 4 of them. Niko enjoyed his 3 dogs: Otis, Lola, and Hazel, and could spend hours just petting and laughing at their antics. He was open to adventure, often visiting his daughter and her family in Asia and vacationing with his son and his family. In his 78 years of life he was fortunate to have travelled to many different countries/continents including returning to his homeland a couple of times.
Niko will always be remembered for his love and loyalty to his family, a man with a gentle and kind soul. He was generous, even in tough times he would give someone his last dollar. He sought peace and harmony in his life, often swallowing his own pride in the process. May he now rest in eternal peace and his memory never be forgotten.
