In memory of

Niki Nikiforos

April 22, 1941 -  January 3, 2017

Niki passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of Jan 03, 2017. Niki immigrated from Greece in 1962 and met her soul mate Spiro on the flight to Montreal where she lived for the first three years of her life in Canada. They married in 1965 and shortly thereafter moved to Toronto. Together they operated several bakeries starting with Continental Bakery on St Clair Ave W, followed by Acropol Bakery on the Danforth and finally ending with Hellenic Bakery in Scarborough. Niki is survived by her beloved husband of more than 50 years Spiro, loved by her two sons DImitri (Jim) and Stefano (Steve), her loving daughter in laws Angela and Olivia, her cherished grandchildren Alexander and Christopher , her beloved twin brother John, sister in law Dina, niece Mary-Ann and nephew Evangelo with his new bride Melissa as well as her remaining brother Mike and sister in law Mary in Greece. She was pre deceased by her brothers, Christos, Georgos and Vassilis.

Niki had many interests and was a very social person who loved to entertain. She always loved to host parties with lots of music and of course food, no one ever left her home hungry. She loved to sing and dance and always had a smile on her face. She especially enjoyed spending time, playing games and creating puzzles with her grandkids who were her biggest joy in her last few years. She always had a kind word and a smile for everyone she met and always chose to not only see the good in everyone but to always look at the positive side of life.

Her wisdom, humour, laughter and love will be deeply missed by her family. We lost our Angel.

In lieu of flowers we ask donations be made in Niki’s name to the Sunnybrook Foundation.

I am so sorry for the loss each of you are experiencing. Unfortunately, I am not able to make the 14 hour drive down in our winter road conditions.
Please know that I loved Niki dearly and did not want to put her in an awkward position due to the divorce with her husband's cousin as I was the ex in-law.
May God be with each of you and give you strength for today. Hold on to all the good memories of a wonderful mother/wife/grandmother and friend.
My condolences are with each of you.

There’s a special place in all of our hearts for our mothers, just like there’s a special place in every mother’s heart for her children. You must continue to carry her memory in that special place in your heart. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your mother.
