In memory of

Nicholas (Nick) Corakis

June 10, 1931 -  October 10, 2023

With much love, surrounded by his wife and children, Nick Corakis passed away peacefully at Humber River Hospital at 4:30pm after Father Tom graciously came to bless him.

Nick Corakis was a great man who always put his family first. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and a beloved member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Nick was brave, honourable, and kind. He also had a great sense of direction. He was a serious man but always had a smile on his face. You could always find him sitting on the porch keeping a neighbourhood watch.

Nick was born on June 10th, 1931, in the small farming village of Kokkinos, Greece. He was the son of Themistocles and Tasia (Karabetsas) and was the seventh of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, and all his brothers and sisters, Vasiliki, PapaSpiro, Penelope, Spirithoula, Demetri, George, and Theodore.

Following World War II, Greece was thrown into a Civil War. It had a devastating economical effect on families, so in search for a better life, Nick left Greece and immigrated to Canada. He arrived in Halifax in 1950 at the age of 19 years old. He worked very hard on a Railroad in Winnipeg and then moved to London where he worked in the hospitality industry. Nick sponsored his brother Ted to come over to Canada in 1955. In 1957 he moved to Toronto where he brought over many cousins from Greece. He always helped his family in need and gave way to their own hopes and dreams. Nick returned to Greece where he was introduced to Zoe, and it was love at first sight. They got married in 1971 and then she moved to Toronto. They started a beautiful life together and raised their two children, Themis and Soula. Nick worked at the airport as a server for over 20 years where his service and dedication was honoured by many awards.

He was a simple, honest man and did not require many frills in life. He was smart, saved his money, loved gardening, and canning the fruit of his labour and shared with others. There were many unbelievable trips to Michigan and Greece to visit and reconnect with family. He loved all his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends with all his heart.

Nick battled Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2009, came out strong and beat it. He was later diagnosed with Aphasia in 2015.

Nick is survived by his wife Zoe (Zacharopoulos), his two children Themistocles and Chrisoula (Scott) and was a proud grandfather to Alexander Nicholas Burgess. Alexander was his pride and joy, and he beamed every time he saw him. Needless to say, Alexander would always leave with a pocketful of money from Pappou.

We are so blessed with great family and friends. Thank you for everyone’s love and support!

MAY HIS MEMORY BE ETERNAL.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to Aphasia Institute https://www.aphasia.ca/donate/donate-now/general-fund/ OR St. George Greek Orthodox Church (there will be envelopes at the church with receipts)

I remember Nick during my first day of my schedule of visit to him. He used to laugh at me when I greeted him "kalimera" in the afternoon which the only greetings that I am comfortable with...he just only smiled to my mistake instead of correcting me.😀😀😀To The Family of Nick: My sincere condolences and caring thoughts are with you all as we share this sympathy. May Nick forever live on in our hearts. May he rest in Eternal Peace! Amen.
