Nick passed away peacefully at Chartwell Niagara – Niagara-on-the Lake on March 1, 2017 in his 92nd year. Sadly missed by his sisters Annie Hawryliw, Olga Butula, Stella Dubiel and Martha Patron. Nick was predeceased by parents, Wasyl and Nettie, brothers Peter, Sam, Joe and Bill, and sister Helen. He will be fondly remembered by numerous other family members and friends.
Nick was employed as a baker at Christies in Toronto for over 25 years and then moved to Weston Bakery when the bread department shut down at Christies. He lived a simple life and treasured all the family gatherings both here in Toronto and back home in Saskatchewan. If there was a game of 3-spot or cribbage being played, Nick was always front and centre. In between family moments, he would go to his favourite escape, the race track. Woodbine andyears back, the Greenwood race track, were familiar locations to find Nick. He would study the racing forms and place the odd wager. But he always placed family above all else. If anyone needed assistance, whether here in Toronto, or out in Saskatchewan, you could count on Nick, in his kind and humble way, to be right there ready to help.
There will be a celebration of Nick’s life on Saturday March 18, 2017 at 10am. Friends and family will gather at Pine Hills Cemetery & Funeral Centre - 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto, ON.
