In memory of

Mykola Moros

December 20, 1945 -  September 24, 2021

Passed away peacefully on Sept 24th, 2021 at the age of 75 after his second battle with cancer. Beloved father of Maksym, and husband of late Maria Naumchuk (1996). Predeceased by sister Natalia (2019). Fred Kratochwil. Survived by sister Lida and brother-in-law, Peter Wowkodaw. Greatly loved uncle to three nephews, and step-children. In later years Mykola was spouse to Christine (Curkowskyj), with whom he spent his “semi-retired” years traveling and enjoying life.

Born in Heidenau, Germany, Mykola immigrated to Canada in 1968. Having an educational foundation in engineering from Germany, he later earned a degree in engineering at the University of Toronto. As a student he was also active in soccer and with the Ukrainian Students’ Club.

In Mykola’s late twenties, he started to build a real-estate “empire”. At one point Mykola was known as “The Baron of Huntsville” (Ontario). Through value appreciation he funded later Ukrainian projects.

Mykola was actively involved with reviving Ukrainian culture and identity internationally from Canada to Ukraine. This was at a time when the soviet KGB was actively obstructing the revival of Ukrainian independence aspirations. He sponsored the mass musical festival “Chevona Ruta” (1989). Under the auspices of Kobza International Corp, which he founded, he produced award winning films “Swan Lake. The Zone” and “Oxygen Starvation” (1990). He continued to sponsor musical and literary revival programs in Ukraine. He operated an international shipping company to bring goods cheaply to Ukraine.

As chief engineer, Mykola was involved in the construction of major cement plants throughout the western hemisphere. As a professional engineer, he served and consulted private clients in Ontario throughout his later years.

He will always be remembered for his warm sense of humour, his positive energy, and influencing youth towards higher education. He was a “renaissance man in motion”. He lived an exceptionally full life in Canada, and touched many lives.

Private family internment (or Funeral) at York Funeral Center York in Toronto Sept 28 2021. A celebration of Mykola’s life will be held on November 6th.

I was deeply saddened by hearing of Mykola Moroz passing. I met Mr. Mykola Moroz in the early ninties in his company Kobza. Mykola helped me and many other young immigrants with employment, and in my particular case with immigration to Canada as well. Mykola's interest in Ukraine, in its' culture, politics and people, as well as his gentle demeanor will always stay in my memory. We met at social gathering before Covid pandemic and Mykola spoke about his plans to get together with all Kobza employees. Covid prevented us to do so, but I think anyone who ever crossed path with Mr. Moroz will always remember him as a person with a generous heart and and a gentle smile. Вічная і світлая пам'ять! Глибокі співчуття синові та родині!
