I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Cowan a number of years ago and had tea with her at the cottage at Scugog when I arrived a bit early for Skins and Fins. My thoughts and prayers are with her and your family.

The brightest light went out Aunt Ella on Thursday when I heard the very sad news. You were a wonderful Mom, Gran, Great Gran, sister and Aunt to all the family. You meant the world to my family and helped Brian’s dream come true when you and your wonderful family helped him realise his life’s dream in Canada. We all have so much to be grateful for having you in our family. Love always, Linda x

Helen and Thomas married March 30, 1951. They immigrated to Canada April 24,1957 and became Canadian Citizens July 21, 1965. They wanted to immigrate to either Canada or New Zealand, we are sure glad they picked Canada! They arrived in Toronto with young Moreen, two trunks and only knowing Aunt Anne and Uncle Jim, very brave. , they started a wonderful life. Mom was the youngest of nine siblings, must have been tough leaving them all behind, she loved her trips back to Scotland as well as family coming to Canada to visit on many occasions.. Mom fulfilled a dream of owning her own cottage. She was so happy and proud of her piece of paradise on lake Scugog. We have so many wonderful memories there from bridal/baby showers , engagements party , birthdays and the annual never to be missed Thanksgiving. We golfed and returned for laughs and great food, truly thankful for all the great times. Mom's family was everything to her and she was everything to us! Mom had many wonderful friendships in her life and cherished everyone of them. Mom was especially close with her siblings, nieces and nephews. Across the pond the bond was strong. Helen worked in Glasgow for Mavor and Coulson, in Canada she worked for a temp agency doing secretarial work, Simpsons and Bell Canada. Helen was a proud member of the Bell Pioneers, weekly meetings , outings with her club / friends and very generous in time and donations to many many charities by Mom and the Pioneers.

Our mum was also a Brownie Leader when I was a kid.
She was called Red Owl because of her beautiful red hair.
Mum was up for anything!
About 20 years ago mum went on a road trip with a friend to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
They were gone for 2weeks. When they returned Ronnie saw them coming up the driveway and said "Thelma and Louise are home"
Mum really liked that and the nickname stuck for a long time.

To not mention Mom's special recipes would be a shame. All her grandchildren have dubbed her pancakes grammacakes! I even had mom write out the recipe which I have framed and keep in my kitchen. No family get together ever did not include mom' s famous cheese patties and sausage rolls. Won't be the same with out You Mom, love you always x

As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And to accept our defeats
Or for teaching us by your example
The value of hard work, good judgement,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We're thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

Just have to share the memory of the time when I thought Gran was at the cottage so in the middle of the night I didn’t want to wake Mom and Dad up so I decided to go down to her place, make some delicious scrambled eggs, and little did I know Gran was there and saw me and said “ Hi Love, what are you up to?” So I took my eggs upstairs, but she never forgot finding me there, in he kitchen, cooking eggs, at about 2 in the morning!
