Passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on March 25, 2019, at the age of 95. Predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan (2017). Loving dad of Deborah (Ken), Kathryn (John), Bruce (Paula), and Tracy. Adored Papa of Jessica (Adam), late Lee (1992), Ashley (Andrew), Stephanie (Taylor), Courtney and Danielle. Great grandpa of Liam, Cadence, Jackson and one on the way. Norman will be forever remembered for his sweet and gentle nature. Friends may call at THORNTON CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, (South of Taunton Road and off of Dryden Blvd, 905-579-6787) on Monday April 1, 2019 from 1pm until the celebration of life in the chapel at 2pm. The family wish to extend their appreciation to the caring and compassionate nursing staff of Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their professionalism and the dignity shown to Norman and his family. Norm was like a father!..Our times together included golfing,fishing,dining.etc. He always laughed and was the kindest man I ever met! He and Joan walked our dog regularly and were very well liked in our neighbourhood. We will miss Norm but will always have fond everlasting memories!

My heartfelt condolences to Debbie, Kathy, Bruce and their families. Norm always mentioned how he was so proud of his children; saying how fortunate he and Joan were to have had them in their lives. This was especially true after Joan had passed. Norm would always say "I don't know what I would have done if it hadn't been for my children!." I would always say "Norm.....you're a lucky man!" I said the same thing as it applied to his marriage to Joan...they were soulmates. I would enjoy him telling how he and Joan met, the exciting escapades of his kids at the cottages, his wonderful trips with Joan, and especially the birth of his grandchildren and great grand children. Also, I was privileged to see home movies of Norm and Joan water skiing...Norm would take off from the dock!
I remember when Norm came over to let our dog Mr. Jackson out as we were away for the day....Norm found Jackson cowing in the basement. He immediately called Joan who sat with the dog while Norm was on the phone getting in touch with my husband. Yes, they were the dog god parents. Both of our dogs loved Norm and Joan, and would want to visit them every chance they could get....sitting on their front doorstep looking in their front door! .
When my own father passed, Joan and Norm were immediately at our doorstep with food to take down to the States for my mother after the service. They always asked of her, and sent their best regards. Both so kind and giving.....words cannot express the hole in our hearts with Norm and Joan both gone.
Somehow I feel in the beautiful gardens of heaven, that Norm and Joan are there; Joan planning her garden for the Spring, and Norm enjoying that round of golf....both pain free. That gives me great comfort.....and knowing how blessed we were to have had them in our lives. Love, Kathy
