In memory of

譚許慕賢夫人 Moyin Tam

June 29, 1937 -  August 23, 2019

On Friday August 23, 2019, Moyin Tam, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 82. Moyin was born in 1930s Hong Kong. It was an era where a girl's formal education was not supported, she witnessed war as a child with her two brothers, lived in urban and farm settings, and eventually arrived in Canada as a married woman to start a new life in Toronto in 1960. She was in her early 20s and had no knowledge of English.

Moyin built and dedicated her life as a homemaker for her family. She was in her element in downtown Chinatown where she would bump into the "village" people. While her roots and ties to her Hong Kong girlfriends remained strong, she also became a passionate hockey/lacrosse/figure skating mom. All of the family cats knew she was the matriarch. She loved all her cats and animals in general (fondly remembering her pet pigs), botanical gardens, and tending to her flowers, tomato and cucumber plants, and mint. To the mild chagrin of her Canadian teenage kids, Moyin's fashion choices ranged between perplexing and classic. Her strong presence, smile and sense of humour remained right up to the end.

Moyin was preceded in death by her father, Hui Yan, and her mother, Chu Sui King and her brother, Frank. She is survived by her husband, Chuck, her three children, Richard, Allan, and Linda, and her brother, Jim.

Moyin taught me the superiority of steamed lobster and the health benefits of daily mini-exercises. She left a beautiful legacy behind in the form of her three great children. She will be missed.
