In memory of

Lorna Mordecai

September 12, 1938 -  December 23, 2023

It is with great regret that we share the passing of Lorna Ellen May Mordecai (nee Watt) on December 23, 2023.

Lorna was born in Jamaica (District of Red Hills; Parish of St. Andrew) on September 12, 1938, to parents Phillip and Violet Watt. A graduate of St. Catherine's High School (Spanish Town, Jamaica), Lorna would go on to work as a teacher, marry and eventually immigrate to Canada (Toronto, Ontario) where she obtained Citizenship in May of 1973. After settling in Canada, Lorna would further her education -- obtaining degrees in Business Management and Public Administration while working as a dedicated public servant with the Ministry of the Attorney General for over three decades.

Lorna was wife to the late Bentley Bates Mordecai; mother to Gary Mordecai and Cherie Mordecai-Steer; mother-in-law to Tyrone Steer; grandmother to Daizal and Salome Steer; kin and sister to beloved Valerie Watt and a host of siblings, nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to give special thanks to the oncology team at Centenary Hospital, the palliative team at Baycrest, Ms. Jesika Velika Mitrevska and team at Pine Hills, Reverend Dr. Timothy Quek, and friends who have been especially supportive at this time including Ms. Ruby Stewart, Ms. Daphne Williams, Ms. Grace Duncan, and Ms. Isobel Layman.

In lieu of ordering flowers we ask that donations be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada; see 'Donations > Make a Donation' link for more info and to donate.

"Faithful One, so unchanging
Ageless One, You're my rock of peace
Lord of all, I depend on You
I call out to You, again and again
I call out to You, again and again
You are my rock in times of trouble
You lift me up when I fall down
All through the storm
Your love is, the anchor
My hope is in You alone."

Lorna was my friend for 23 years. She was also my sister in the Faith of Jesus Christ. Her life was an unforgettable witness to me of someone who truly lived what she believed. She was kind, caring, and wise. Her loyalty and love for me will be treasured by me as long as I live. She was a faithful and wise mother and grandmother. A loving sister to Valerie and her siblings. She is now at peace with her Lord, renewed and revived. I look forward to embracing her again in heaven.
