In memory of

Monica Yvonne Lubsey

December 25, 1942 -  March 11, 2022

Monica passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. Monica was born December 25, 1942 in St. Michaels, Barbados to Lilian Roberts-Parris and Leonard Roberts. She moved to Canada in the early 60s to finish her formal education and start a new life. She enjoyed an active social and work life, but managed to slow down enough to marry and have two daughters. After her divorce, Monica raised both girls on her own, stressing the importance of education and personal autonomy. She led by example when she returned to school at age 40 so that she could change careers.

Monica retired in 2008, and chose to devote her time to volunteering. For her efforts, she was recognized for her contributions to the community during QEII’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

She is survived by her siblings, Nola, Henderson, and Keith, her nieces and nephews, Charlene, Cameron, Kimberly, Leslie, and Kim, and her younger daughter Rochelle. In death, she is reunited with her first born daughter, Kristin.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Chapel. The funeral service will follow on Saturday March 19, 2022 at 12 pm at St Michael and All Angels. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Auntie Mon, You've take your wings and are no longer in pain. Your vibrancy and sooooo many stories will be cherished and missed. Thank you for feeding my heart, soul (and belly on the numerous occasions I visited your home). You can trust that your daughter, my friend, will be well loved and taken care of. Forever in my heart.
