In memory of

Mitsuo Henry Kuroda

October 7, 1931 -  April 21, 2022

Passed away peacefully at The Scarborough Hospital – General Division on April 21, 2022. Predeceased by Lily, his wife of 64 years, in 2021; loving father to Dana (Cliff); most adored Grandpy to Cameron and Garrett; cherished brother-in-law to Leatrice; and dearest uncle to Kevin (Yoko), Karen (Cary), Jaimie (Joel), Adam (Emiline), and many great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Genjiro and Hatsumi Kuroda; parents-in-law, Takeo and Yukie Nakano; sisters, Toshiko, Fumiko, Mary, Tomi, and Sue; brothers, Kaz, Mas, and Herb; and brother-in-law, Joe.

Mits was born in Bowser, Vancouver Island, B.C., and lived in nearby Deep Bay until he was 10 years old. When World War II began, his family was asked to leave Vancouver Island. He stayed in Vancouver until being relocated to Slocan, B.C., and then moved to Carleton Place, Ontario, in 1946. He continued his education in Carleton Place during grade nine before moving to Toronto, where he attended Central Technical School and met Lily in 1947. They began dating in 1953 and were married in 1956.

Mits began his working years in the dry cleaning industry before pursuing his half-century career in real estate. Their daughter, Dana, was born in 1962. Mits truly enjoyed travelling with both family and many close friends. In his leisure time, he had a strong passion for spending time in the casino, whether at the crap or roulette tables or in the poker room. He also loved going to the race track or playing cards with friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in sports, such as hockey, basketball, and baseball; and into his later years, golfing, bowling, and billiards. Not only a participator in sports, he was also a spectator, and especially a true fan in cheering on the home teams. A devoted family man, Mits was particularly caring in attending to his family members who predeceased him by illness. Above all else, however, his true love was spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons.

A special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at both Scarborough and St. Michael’s hospitals for their dedication, care, and support to Mits and his loved ones. A memorial visitation will take place from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Pine Hills Cemetery and Visitation Centre. The family will hold a private service, but plans to hold a Celebration of Life for both Mits and Lily at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or Koden, donations may be made to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, Momiji Health Care Society, Scarborough Hospital – General Division, or St Michael’s Hospital Toronto.
