In memory of

Mitsue Shintani

August 11, 1923 -  April 13, 2023

Mitsue Shintani, Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023, with loved ones by her side. The daughter of Sueno and Tazo Shintani, Mitsue (“Mitsie”) was born on August 11, 1923, in Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by her sisters, Eileen Harada (Tamaye), twin sister, Mizue Takeuchi (Miz), and brother George Shintani, she is survived by siblings Irene Fujiwara (Husky) and Roy Shintani (Sakaye).

Mitsie moved to Toronto after being interned with her family in BC. Passionate about fashion, Mitsie attended the Traphagen School of Fashion, one of the first fashion schools in New York City, where she studied couture sewing. With an eye for detail, Mitsie was a talented seamstress, creating beautiful clothes for loyal clients over many years and one-of-a-kind gowns for her nieces’ Barbie dolls.

Mitsie enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives, including her many nieces and nephews, reading, and doing crafts. She loved her home at Momiji where she was surrounded by caring staff, participated in many activities with friends, and enjoyed delicious Japanese foods regularly.

Mitsie’s relatives wish to express their deepest appreciation for the care and support from Momiji staff, volunteers, and her PSWs, most recently, Ellen Bautista and Vivien Laurencio. They are also grateful to the care teams at Scarborough General Hospital and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, where she spent her final days.

Mitsie’s interment and gathering for her relatives and friends will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Momiji Health Care Society (www.momiji.on.ca) or or your preferred charity.
