In memory of

Mirdza Fricbergs

August 21, 1925 -  June 14, 2023

Mirdza Fricbergs, 97, of Richmond Hill passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2023 at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Imants Fricbergs, mother Anna Trankelis, and brothers Harijs Trankelis and Edgars Trankelis. She is survived by her sons Artis Fricbergs and Kaspars Fricbergs (Mary Toy-Fricbergs), and grandchildren Tyler Thomson (Natalia Thomson), Sean Fricbergs, and Amelie Fricbergs, and great-granddaughter Olivia Thomson.

Mirdza was a devoted and loving wife and mother who immigrated to Canada as a young woman after the second world war. She worked as a housekeeper and nurse caregiver in London, Ontario before moving to Toronto and working in the insurance industry with Canada Life. After her marriage she worked with her husband Imants as owners/operators of the then well-known Glen Echo Lodge in Muskoka and later Skokie’s Place restaurant in Gravenhurst, all while raising two sons.

Mirdza was known for her warmth, affection, wonderful sense of humour, and her mastery of Latvian cuisine. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fighting Blindness Canada.

The many times we met at family gatherings, she was joyful to speak to and had a lot of wisdom from all her experiences. She raised two good-hearted and intelligent boys. That says a lot about her. She can rest in peace now.
