November 4, 1913 -  September 11, 2016

Minoru Kishi passed peacefully, in his 103rd year, at the Hogarth Riverview Manor on September 11, 2016.
Beloved husband of Tokiko.

Loving father of Joyce Mauro (late Rudy), Ronald (Mary), Gerald (Joanne), and Leslie (Rose). Cherished grandfather of Rob Mauro (Marilyn), Kim Mauro (Chris), Randy Mauro (Mary Sue Lem), Melissa Mauro (Donald Kerr), Diane Sepa-Kishi (Peit Sepa), Matthew, Nikki, and Ben Kishi. Proud great-grandfather of Torr, Sarah (Pedro), Cole, Blake, Sophia, Natalie, Fergus, and Elizabeth. He is survived by sisters in law Miyo Endo and Ichie Yamamoto, and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Predeceased by his parents Otomatsu and Misue, and brothers Noboru and Shunji.

Minoru was born on November 4, 1913 in Steveston, British Columbia. After attending the Lord Byng school, he established himself as a member of a community that were fishermen in season and boat builders in the winter. During these years, he made many perilous trips to the fishing grounds near the Skeena River, a journey of hundreds of miles. While working out of Steveston, he met and married Tokiko. They recently celebrated their 76th anniversary. At the outbreak of the Second World War, Minoru and his family were interned at New Denver, B.C. There he used his carpentry skills to help build houses and other facilities for the many families that were relocated to that region. After the war years, Minoru moved east with his family, eventually settling in Fort William. As a carpenter, he befriended many tradespeople. They eventually combined their skills to build a cabin cruiser, and Minoru spent many happy hours with friends and family on the waters around Thunder Bay. He retired after many years in the work force, and joined Tokiko at Grandview Lodge in 2009. They moved to the Hogarth Riverview Manor in 2016.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his wife, as a loving father, and as a doting grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Our thanks and gratitude to all of the fabulous staff at Grandview Lodge and Hogarth Riverview Manor for their compassionate care.

A visitation will be held for family and friends at PINE HILLS FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Saturday, October 22 from 10:00 a.m followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. In Minoru's memory, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
