It is with heavy hearts and sadness the family announces his passing of Miroslav “Mica” Markovich on
July 16, 2022 at the age of 83 years. Beloved husband of Mara (nee Radovanovic).
Loving father of Zora (Mark), Zoran (Sanja) and Milanka (Serge), and grandfather to Yovan, Aleksandra,
Miroslav, Radoslav, Petra, Pavle, Anna and Sasha. Predeceased by his brother Dragoslav and sister
Milanka and his parents Branislav and Zorka. He will be sadly missed by the Radovanovic, Jelic,
Krajishnik, Mnuskin and Daljevic families and by many other family members, Kumovi and friends in
Canada, Serbia and abroad.
As a young man, he defied his family and fled communist Yugoslavia. He traversed hundreds of
kilometers by foot to get to freedom from communism. He found his footing after arriving in Toronto,
where he found a friend in the late Bozo Radovanovic and worked hard for nearly 30 years at GE. Bozo
played a large role in his future, by introducing him to his niece Mara. Together Mara and Mica built
their home and raised their three children and put them all through university.
Mica was a long-standing member of the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church and was
known for his kindness and zest for life. The family will receive family and friends at the YORK CEMETERY
& VISITATION CENTRE, 160 Beecroft Rd, North York (north of Sheppard Ave., west of Yonge St,
416-221-3404) for visitation on Monday, July 18th, 2022 from 5pm to 9pm with a prayer at 7pm. A
Serbian Orthodox service will be at the Chapel at 11AM on , July 19th, 2022 with the Rev. Presbyter
Jovan Marjanac officiating. Interment to follow at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to donate to St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in his
name.
