It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Milorad Skakavac, age 87, beloved husband, father and deda. Predeceased by father Jovo, and mother Danica, and brothers Ilija, Branko, Uros, Niko and Milan. Survived by wife of 67 years, Jovanka (nee Risticevic), son Jelenko (Maria) and daughters Jelica (Cviko) and Mileva and grandchildren Emilia, Mia, Diana, Ratko, Branko and Milenko, as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was in born in Podgradje, Bosna in 1938 and moved to Srem, Serbia after WWII. With the help of his brother Ilija’s sponsorship, he and his family immigrated to Canada in 1970. He was very close with his brother Ilija and his family and grateful for a chance to make a new life in Canada for himself and family. He and his wife enjoyed hosting family members for dinners and spent many hours playing chess with his brother-in-law Vojin Kovac. He was known by many as a long-time parishioner of the All Serbian Saints Serbian Orthodox Church in Mississauga, where he volunteered extensively. Gardening, and working on various projects around the house gave him great joy. In Canada, he worked as a machinist until retirement. He considered himself very fortunate for his family and achievements and never took anything for granted, given the disadvantages he faced starting out in life.
