In memory of

Mike Giugias

August 8, 1929 -  November 3, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Giugias at the glorious age of 95, the last surviving sibling of a very large family. From very humble beginnings in the mountains of Northern Greece, to owning a restaurant at Yonge and Bloor, and everything in between, Mike was a hard working, loving husband, father, and Papou.

Mike was born in in Nymfaio, Greece, where he served in the Greek Army before immigrating to Canada in 1956. With a cigarette always in hand, sporting the highest fashion suits, he sought out a better life for himself and his family. Many happy years were spent as a proud restaurant owner, including Sit & Eat, Motorama, and Billy’s, where his wife and young sons often helped out.

The Avenue Road and Lawrence neighbourhood is where he spent the majority of his life, known by many neighbours, where the door was always open to friends and relatives. He loved and nurtured his enormous vegetable garden and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Family was everything to him.

He leaves behind his Wife Mary (Marika) of 67 years, his sons Nicholas (Rita) and George; three grandchildren, Zach (Olivia), Alexandra, and Katie (Clark); and 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Nikola and Fani.

An enormous thank you to the incredibly loving, compassionate, and kind nurses, caregivers, and administrative staff at the Hellenic Home for the Aged, where he spent the last 3 1/2 years, immersed in comfort and joy.

He will be missed dearly. Farewell sweet father, and cherished Papou.

If desired, donations can be made to the Hellenic Home for the Aged – Scarborough [2411 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough, ON M1P 4X1].
