In memory of

Mikaila Janine Straatsma

November 5, 1994 -  June 19, 2025

It is with immeasurable grief that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Mikaila Janine Straatsma, who died tragically on June 17, 2025, at the age of 30.
Mikaila vividly expressed many artistic talents from her singing, music composition, and painting. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and completed a Paralegal Graduate Certificate.
We shall greatly miss her keen wit and laughter and keep memories of her alive forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her parents, Pamela and Ron, her brother Reuben, and his partner, Kevin.
A Visitation to honour Mikaila’s life will be held on Sunday July 6th from 1-1:30 pm followed by a Service at 1:30 pm at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mikaila’s memory to a cause such as Covenant House Toronto or CAMH: The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Mikki was a brilliant light — funny, fiercely creative, and deeply compassionate. A gifted artist and musician, she brought beauty and laughter into every space she entered. She lifted others up with her strength, kindness, and fearless spirit. She will be loved, missed, and remembered always. Thanks for holding my hand through all my piercings — and through everything else. I'll miss you more than I can ever express.

With a heavy heart I give my condolences to Pam, Reuben, and Ron over the loss of Mikki. It's truly a loss no one could understand. Mikkis was a good friend if mine. She was a fiery passionate person with a big heart. I've seen her grow and progress with her music over the years and I'm so thankful to her for wanting me to be apart and helping her with her passion. I listen to her music with fond memories. 17 years of friendship seems like a long time and yet not nearly enough. I miss you mik, I wish we had more time.
