January 15, 2021
The family of Michael Luxton regret to announce his passing on January 15, 2021 at the age of 90, at his home in Oakville, Ontario Canada. He is predeceased by his father Alfred Robert Luxton and mother Aline Margaret Luxton (née Groves) of London, England.
He is survived by his older sister Ethel Sonia Helen Thompson (Toni) (née Luxton) of Port Hope, ON, daughter Barbara Miles (née Luxton) of BC., and son Eric Luxton of Titahi Bay, Porirua, New Zealand.
Michael is survived by many family members in BC and Ontario who will miss him immensely, as they loved him dearly.
Born in Chelsea, London, Michael lived his early years with his parents and sister in Devon and Cheshire in England. He was a member of the Luxton family that lived at Brushford Barton in Winkleigh, Devon for more than a century.
While there were always horses in his childhood, he was drawn to motorcycles in his teens and for a while was an expert hillclimber. After the second world war, he spent two years in National Service with the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, England, before moving to Vancouver, BC in 1950 to join his sister and mother, who moved there one year prior. Educated in British boarding schools and armed with a generous dose of charm, whit, and a love of outdoor sports, he took well to living in Western Canada.
After a stint of working on a private yacht, he eventually began a career in sales, a career of which he never tired. It was also here that he married and started a family.
In the 1970’s Michael moved to Ontario and started his own company Michael Marketing, which he ran for over two decades. His love for open water led him to owning a cruiser for many years which he kept at a marina in Oakville. He spent the rest of his years in Oakville with family and friends nearby.
Michael was laid to rest with his mother and brother-in-law James Eben Thompson (Tommy) at Thornton Cemetery in Oshawa, ON. A private service will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank his many friends and staff at Halton Community Housing Corporation for their continuous support and friendship.
