In memory of

Michael Kluthe

April 14, 1938 -  February 5, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ulrich "Michael" Kluthe on Monday, February 5th, 2024, surrounded by his family in Toronto after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. He was 85 years old.

Michael was an inspiration to all who crossed paths with him, having gained a reputation as one of the city's best hairstylists, and was highly respected by staff, colleagues, and clients. He was internationally recognized by the elite invitational hairdressing association Intercoiffure.

Michael is survived by his son David (Karen), daughter Stephanie (Max), partner Carol Marcello, grandchildren Lauren and Andrew, and brother Holger "Gary" (Sharon).

Michael was born in Hamburg, Germany, and learned his craft from his mother and father. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, initially settling in Edmonton. He quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant stylist, and his chair was always full despite not initially speaking any English. In 1959, Michael relocated to Toronto where he worked at the legendary Caruso Hair Salon, before opening Michael Kluthe Salon in 1967. Michael loved his craft, and he would say he never worked a day in his life; in his heyday he served 20 customers in a day, including a number of celebrities. He was deterred only by Parkinson's, which led him to retire at age 79.

In addition to being a skilled hairdresser, Michael had a passion for travel and golf, and travelling to play golf. He served as President of Beacon Hall Golf Club for two terms in 1998 and 1999.

Michael will be sadly missed by all, and will remain in our hearts in all that we do.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca)
