In memory of

Metrophanis "Metro, Papou" Papademetriou

January 23, 1942 -  July 18, 2022

Metrophanis Papademetriou, 80 years old, of Scarborough, Ontario passed away on July 18th, 2022.

Metrophanis was born on January 23rd, 1942 to Eleni and Papa Demetris Metrophanou in Lazanias, Cyprus. Metrophanis was the youngest of 3 children; Evdokia and Annastasia. He attended the highschool of Pan Cypriot Gymnasium founded in 1812 by Archbishop Kyprianos which is the oldest highschool in Nicosia, Cyprus. His father was a notable high priest who was asked to study and preach at Saint John's Cathedral, the main church of the island of Cyprus.

During his time in Nicosia, he met his loving wife Androulla and were married on June 6th, 1965, celebrating 57 years of marriage. Metrophanis and Androulla went on to have 3 children, Demetrios, Harris, and Chrystalla who they are very proud of.

Metrophanis is survived by his wife, 3 children, and grandchildren, Andrea, Liam, and Ethan.

Metrophanis loved being a superintendent at 709 Kennedy Road, as he enjoyed meeting new people and creating genuine relationships. He always took the time to get know everyone and extend a helping hand at every opportunity. After 20+ years, he retired with his wife to enjoy the next chapter in life. He spent his time learning technology, solving challenging puzzles, and quality time with his children and grandchildren. Metrophanis had an affinity for all sports, especially hockey, supporting the Toronto Maple Leafs; he never missed a game. Every Friday evening, he would drive over to his local Kafenion to play cards with friends and share laughs through storytelling. His favourite holiday to celebrate was Greek Orthodox Easter as preparation spanned over a few days, from involving time at church, to slowly cooking the blessed lamb with his family. He loved cypriot cuisine; pourgouri, halloumi, red wine sausages, soujoukkos, and his beloved souvla and souvlaki were among some of his favourites.

Most would describe Metrophanis as a stoic, humble, kind man who devoted his life to his family. He made a tough decision leaving his beloved Cyprus, travelling by boat on Olympia for 14 days to Halifax, Canada to provide a better opportunity for his family. He enjoyed sharing stories of his upbringing and childhood experiences and keeping his Cypriot traditions alive. He will be forever missed and always remembered as his legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren.

God bless.
