In memory of

Mervyn Emmanuel Georges

August 14, 1939 -  April 20, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mervyn’s passing. Mervyn (Pops) passed away quietly in his sleep on the morning of April 20th, 2023.

Mervyn was born on August 14, 1939, in Antigua, to Norris and Vera Georges. He came to Canada in the late 60’s, where he attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and later moved to Toronto.

Mervyn was deeply devoted to discussing all things politics with whoever would listen, and always enjoyed a good prank. He was a lifelong learner and an advocate of academics and higher education. He proudly held a Bachelor of Arts (Lakehead), Bachelor of Education (UofT), Bachelor of Social Work (York), Master of Social Work (Carlton) and a Master of Education (UofT).

The years he spent as a Registered Social Worker, counsellor and teacher were special, as it gave him the opportunity to help students in need of guidance, advocacy, and mentorship. Mervyn was also a past president of the Antigua and Barbuda association of Toronto. That post gave him the opportunity to do what he did best, network, socialize, meet new (and old) friends, and make an impact for Antiguans and Barbudans across the diaspora.

Mervyn will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He's survived by his devoted wife Dorleen, son Roy, daughters Tajé (McIntosh) and Fatima (Gould) and grandchildren, Aldric, Dannelle, Makayla, Micah and Mateo, sisters Nadia (Georges), Marie (Yearwood), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, United States and Antigua.

My uncle Mervyn. I haven't seen him in years. The last time I saw him was in 2004. It was the Georges family reunion. Uncle Mervyn was always the one to give you wise words, make you laugh and just a brilliant man. I have been saddened. It has been on my mind and I hope that I can speak with his wife and kids. My number is +12687733830. Call or WhatsApp.

I love you Uncle Mervyn.

Death cannot kill what never dies. The comfort of having an Uncle may be taken away but not that of having had one.

There' is an old saying that says, where a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories.

I am fortunate to have had many beautiful memories of Uncle Mervyn that I will treasure forever.

The laughs, the warm hugs, and the many stories that kept me enthralled will forever be etched in my memory & heart.

To his dutiful and loving wife Dorleen, His son Roy and his daughters Taje and Fatima I offer my sincere condolences.

He is gone but will NEVER be forgotten.

Uncle Mervyn, May your soul continue to Sleep in perpetual peace.
I love you.
