MERCEDES LIST AND TORRUCO
25 March 1937 - 15 November 2019
Mercedes was born in Mexico City. She was the eldest daughter of Armando List Arzubide and Elena Torruco Sierra. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rubén Fernández Rivera; daughters, Malinali (Francisco Zea), Erendira (Rolando Carrillo) and Amalia Jaistemmí (James Sandy); grandchildren Max Zea (22), Nicole Nazar (22), Sofia Carrillo (17) and Santiago Zea (16).

Mercedes attended teachers college and was briefly an elementary school teacher. Shortly after, she held a career in counselling and rehabilitation and practised at the General Hospital of Mexico City implementing the first rehab program of its kind in the country. She went on to receive her Master in clinical psychology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Later in her career, she worked in government services for the Family Development Ministry, where she led the implementation of social programs that benefited low-income communities and indigenous communities in the state of Veracruz, Mexico.

After several leadership positions in the Mexican federal and state government, Mercedes retired in 2000. That year she made the decision together with her husband to serve God as full-time ministers, taking basic studies for the pastorate in San José de Costa Rica, and later the master's degrees in religious sciences and family counselling.

Together, Mercedes and Ruben lead the church in Barcelona, Spain for a year in 2007. In 2014, they moved to Toronto, Canada and later received Canadian citizenship. In 2015 she started the doctorate in Ministry online from the Nazarene Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.

Throughout her life, Mercedes always spoke with the truth. She was brave and noble. Mercedes had a heart full of love and compassion for her brother and sisters from the Nazarene Christian Church and the churches all over the world where she made an impact in so many in her fellowship.

Mercedes will be truly missed, but we know the goal of her faith in Christ was eternal salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ.

To God be the glory.
