In memory of
Meguerditch Kahyayan
January 1, 1946 -
February 11, 2023
Megeurditch Kahyayan, 77, born in Ashrafia, Lebanon on January 27, 1946 passed away peacefully on February 11, 2023 in his home of 36 years in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was born to parents of Armenian descent, Ossana and Hovhannes Kahyayan, and grew up with 4 siblings. He spent his youth exploring his passion for nature, playing with the goats, sheep, donkeys and cows of the countryside and picking flowers and fruits to share with his community. His first job was at a bakery at the age of 9 which sparked his lifelong enthusiasm for sweets. He spent his youth travelling the world, attending concerts of his favourite bands, and obtaining various mechanical and electrical engineering degrees and diplomas from Lebanon, France, Italy, and England. He worked as an automotive mechanic and electrical engineer for his entire life.
Megeurditch and his wife, Hasmik Kahyayan, fell in love and were married on December 4, 1972, in Beirut, Lebanon. They went on to have two daughters, Ossana Kahyayan and Annig Kahyayan-Maillet. He provided for and protected his family through the civil war in Lebanon, keeping them safe after 3 of their homes were destroyed by bombs. In 1987, on July 1st, they found solace in Canada and had their third child, Hovhannes Kahyayan the next year. Megeurditch continued his passion for education in Canada where he completed his 26th and final degree. Megeurditch always expressed his gratitude for the country where his children could grow up safe. He was blessed with five grandchildren who he loved dearly, Dillon Maillet, Stephanie Kahyayan, Luckas Maillet, Anthony Maillet, and Lucine Kahyayan.
Megeurditch Kahyayan lived his life with so much love and always taught his family to value the important things: being kind to everyone, being fulfilled by the simple things, and never losing your passion to learn. He fought for 7 years with a heart condition that was said to leave him with 10 months after diagnosis. His love for his family preceded his illness and he lived by a miracle until his last breath. He left his family with a legacy of immense strength, love and compassion. There are no words to express how grateful we are to have had Megeurditch in this world. We are forever grateful for the time he spent singing to us, telling us funny stories, walking us through the park, bringing us flowers and treats, and never going a few minutes without his infectious laugh. His soul will live on forever, and his impact can never be forgotten.
