In memory of
Maureen Alice McFarland
March 19, 1938 -
June 2, 2021
Maureen Alice (Clements) McFarland, 83, went peacefully home to be with Jesus on Wednesday June 2nd, 2021.
She was born to Charles and Lily Clements, March 19th, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario. Maureen graduated from East York Collegiate Institute in 1956 and went on to study dressmaking and textiles at Ryerson Institute of Technology.
Maureen married and moved to Thornhill where she raised her two children. She later moved to Richmond Hill and more recently to Bethany Lodge in Unionville. She worked at a variety of jobs including Crown Life, Markham Economist & Sun and Activity Director at Brookside Long Term Care. She also worked as a volunteer at York Central Hospital. However, her most treasured role was being a mom. Maureen was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She is survived by her daughter Darlene (Anthony) Suchy of Uxbridge and her son Colin (Jessica) McFarland of Dalian, China. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren; Christopher, Mark & Victoria Suchy, Fiona, Alethia & Kieran McFarland, her dear sister Marilyn Weatherford, Nassau, Bahamas, cousins and her nieces and nephews.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Maureen, was a talented and international award winning seamstress, she also loved doing arts and crafts, being involved in many church activities, enjoying tea and scones with good friends, or merely catching up with them over the phone. Maureen had many treasured friendships, with some lasting for more than 60 or even 73 years. She was a quieter person until you got to know her. Yet she had a silly and giggly side when she was with her close friends. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, which she shared with those who surrounded her. She was known in her church and community as a sweet, kind and gentle lady who found joy in helping others and giving. She was adored by all those who knew her.
The staff of Bethany Lodge have been beyond wonderful in their care for Maureen. She moved there the day Covid 19 closed all long-term care homes and the staff became her hands on family. Maureen was truly happy there and grateful for the care she received.
Due to Covid 19, a small personal service will be held on Sunday June 13th, 2021 from 9am-11am at The Elgin Mills Funeral Centre. There will be an open invitation to attend virtually.
