In memory of

Matthew Eaton

October 28, 1952 -  May 30, 2020

Matthew Eaton, 67, of Toronto, Ontario passed away peacefully on May 30, 2020, surrounded by the love of his wife and daughters following a heart attack due to complications from surgery for bladder cancer.

He was born on October 28, 1952 in Toronto and preceded in death by his parents Matthew Eaton (Sr) and Ada Kathleen Pearson (Thompson) and stepfather James Pearson.

Matthew was a quiet family man, a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy. He was funny, he loved sports, he loved dogs and for most of his life he donned a pair of jeans with a cowboy hat and boots.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Mary-Joe Eaton (Lemos) and two loving daughters Mandy Eaton-Almaria and Mindy Kozak (Eaton) and his two son-in-laws Paulo Almaria and Tim Kozak. He was the proud Papa to his granddaughter Celeste Kozak.
He was the baby brother to Donna Hibbert (Eaton) and brother-in-law to Geoff Hibbert. He was ‘Cool Uncle Matt’ to his niece and nephews Matt Scott, Laura Scott and John Scott. He was the dutiful son-in-law to Maria Lemos.

The family encourages you to sign and share a memory of Matt in the Guestbook to help them celebrate his life at this tough time.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family ask if you would like to honour Matthew's memory, please do so through a donation in his name to the Toronto Humane Society. Animals, specifically his dogs, were one of his biggest passions. (A link can be found below.)

Due to the current restrictions, the family will be holding a private, intimate service to honour Matthew’s memory on Saturday, June 6th. A celebration of Matthew’s life will be planned in the future when current restrictions are lifted.

The memory that stands out for me his seeing Matt at Kretschmer every day with his dog as he waited for Mary to finish work. R.I.P Matt and God bless your family.

When I think of Matt, it is the devotion and love for Mary-Joe that comes to mind. I remember Mary-Joe deciding to hold a yard sale in her driveway to fundraising for luekemia. Matt was right there hanging flags off the porch and helping set things up. Having completed the first one, when Mary-Joe said we should do this again. I looked over at him expecting him to say no way. But he just smiled and said ok. He supported Mary-Joe in everything she wanted to do. They were a truly loving team, both doing all they could for each other. He will be missed

I played baseball with Mandy and Mindy and always saw him at every game, always supporting his girls. I don't think if I remember he would ever miss a game, was nice to see the wonderful support. Such a lovely family and was so nice to see and be around. Sad to see a kind person like that go, thinking of the Mary, Mandy and Mindy hoping they are holding up during this difficult time. He and Mary definitely did a great job raising wonderful girls, he must have been so proud to have a loving, supporting family and live a great life that we all saw you all did ❤️
