In memory of
Mathew Joseph Bukovac
March 21, 1979 -
December 2, 2019
It is with great sadness we share that Mathew Joseph Bukovac left this world unexpectedly, at age 40, on December 2nd, 2019 in Toronto, Ontario. He was born in Mississauga, Ontario on March 21st, 1979 to Pamela and Michael Bukovac. Mathew grew up in Mississauga, Ontario and attended school at St. Mark Elementary, Loyola Catholic High School, Robert Land Academy and Ryerson University. He graduated from Robert Land Academy and attended Ryerson University for 2 years receiving high academic distinction on the Dean's List.
Mathew will always be remembered for his fun-loving nature, charisma, athleticism and intelligence. From a young age, he excelled in a variety of sports, specifically soccer, basketball and hockey. He was quickly recognized for his height, speed, agility and strong hand-eye coordination, often earning him the title of team "Captain." He received athletic scholarship offers for his excellence in basketball and hockey.
When Mathew walked into a room, his presence was felt not just for his height of 6'6", but rather for his magnetic personality, witty sense of humor and caring heart. He was blessed with so many God-given talents, but sadly was never able to realize them to his full potential. His girlfriend, Jordana Gregg said it best, "He just had this way about him that he could move mountains if he wanted to. And he did want to so badly, that's the sad part." We wish he could've seen himself the way that others saw him. Despite all of this, his greatest accomplishment and gift to the world was becoming a father to son, Luca. His bright light will live on through his son to carry out his unfinished accomplishments.
He leaves behind his mother, Pamela Bukovac, sister, Amanda (Bukovac) Sullivan & brother-in-law, Patrick Sullivan, his girlfriend Jordana Gregg and their 11-month-old son, Luca Gregg Bukovac, niece and nephew, Morgan & Shaun Sullivan, along with his Aunt, Rose Andrachuk, Uncle, John Andrachuk, cousins and friends. Mathew was preceded by his father, Michael Bukovac and his Grandparents.
We take comfort in knowing Mathew is finally at peace and is no longer suffering from the torments of his addiction. When you think of Mathew, celebrate the good memories of him because this is what he would've wanted. Please remember that life is fragile and fleeting and should be lived to the fullest.
Family and Friends will be received at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE- MISSISSAUGA 1535 South Gateway Road (at Dixie Road, two lights south of Eglinton) 905-602-1580 on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at 10am for a Memorial Gathering. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11am as well as a luncheon from 12pm-2pm.
In lieu of flowers, we would greatly appreciate donations to the Renascent Treatment Center http://bit.ly/BukovacFamily in honor of Mathew as well as all those who also suffer from addiction.
Rest in Peace, Mat xo
