Masae Yamashita

June 8, 1926 - February 28, 2023

Masae Yamashita (nee Muraki), age 96, passed away peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital on February 28, 2023.

Mom was very independent yet extremely devoted to her family. She was born in Vancouver and during her long life she lived in Japan, Alberta and finally Toronto where she met Tom. In later years she lived at the McCowan Retirement Residence and lastly at Fountain View Care Community.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Tsutomu (Tom). Loving mother of Laura (David), Rae (John) and Carl. She will be missed by her grandchildren Nicholas, Phillip and Jordan.

She leaves behind her sister Kikue and sister-in-law Margaret and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters and brothers: Eiko, Murphy, Kenji, and Tosh.

We wish to thank the Fountain View Care Community staff who took excellent care of mom.

On my first day of work at the Secretary of State, I was assigned to train under Masae, my Sifu. She taught me everything I needed to know to do my job. She was very diligent, conscientious and knowledgeable. Many of my colleagues sought her out to figure out their complicated cases. She was always willing to help. She was always a willing participant at our get together even after her retirement. She would always talk about her family lovingly. Although, I have not met her family members until recently. I feel that I know them. She always talked about Tom, Carl, Laura and Rae.
Carl, Laura and Rae, please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences at your loss.
