It is with regret that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, aged 97½ years, on May 3, 2020 at Scarborough Grace Hospital. She has gone to a better place in the kingdom of God, and to join her beloved husband, Ching-Yun Tong, after 18 years apart. Cherished mother to Nancy (the late, Sheung Yung), Linda, George (Wendy), Peter, Judy and Ida (Salina). Greatly missed by grandchildren Maidi, Anthony, Jamil, Nadim, Jessica, Ben, Calvin and great-grandchild Ocean.

In memory of Mary and in lieu of flowers , donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Special thanks to the staff of Bridgepoint Palliative Care and Mon Sheong Private Care, Markham for their dedication and professionalism.

It has been a privilege to have known and often met with Auntie Tong for decades and decades. She has always been kind and gracious to us, which we will miss dearly. It is a consolation to see that she has lived a long and fulfilled life, and enjoyed high quality of life up to the end. George, Wendy, Peter, Judy, Nancy, Linda, and Ida, please accept our sincerest condolences for your loss.

I have fond memories of Por Por and Kun Kun growing up as a young boy in Hongkong. Maybe it was fate that we lived very close to each other or the fact that my Aunt is about the same age as my sister and we played together often. We saw Por Por and Kun Kun a lot and every time we were together, there was always love and gentleness in their eyes.
I have only faint memories of my early childhood and visiting Por Por’s store but I can remember my sister and I loved to visit her because of all the treats we left with. Even at that young age I found my Por Por to be different. Different in a sense that she lived before her time- smart, has her opinions, supportive, and strong. One might call her a liberated woman in her generation. My Kun Kun was generous, intelligent, soft spoken, and understanding. Together they were like the jin and jang except there was no negative energy, just complementing each other to form a perfect loving union. They provided unconditional love and kindness for my Mom and they were the perfect grandparents to my sister and me.
On my recent trip to Toronto, I was reminded of her radiance as we sat in her room together. She talked about the beautiful orchids on the shelf and the colourful animal images on the window. I felt a sense of peacefulness and gratitude in her for all the care and loving attention from my Aunts and Uncles throughout the years.
Our family is blessed to have Por Por in our lives. Her advice to me on my sister’s wedding day to nurture your partner, to love your partner still ring true in my heart today. We will all miss her dearly.
