In memory of

Mary Sarkesian

April 29, 1925 -  May 19, 2017

Mary Sarkesian
(nee Melkonian)

Passed peacefully on May 19 in her 93rd year at the Woodhaven LTC facility in Markham with devoted family and caring staff by her side. Loving wife to Jack Sarkesian (deceased) and beloved mother to daughter Teresa Sarkesian (Brian Welsh) who will miss her dearly. She leaves behind nieces and nephews in the US including Ralph (Audrey), Roxie, Marianne (Gary), Tom, and Lorie (Tim). Born in Galt (Cambridge), Ontario on April 29, 1925, Mary had wonderful memories of her hometown friends including Marg P, Margaret and Irene P, Alma W to name only a few. Mary always had a kind word for everyone and went out of her way to acknowledge others and their important life milestones. Mary’s working life in Cambridge included Sinclair’s, Woolworths, and Dixon Dairy. After she married Jack and moved to Toronto in the late 1950s her new career was as a full-time homemaker and mother. Her passions included watching old movies; gardening; and doting over the family cat. After Jack’s passing she particularly enjoyed her outings with Sonia M (deceased 2015) as they hit the malls and the movies regularly. Her bright smile, gentle disposition, generosity, sense of humour and gift for gab were loved by her family and friends and the staff at the Woodhaven. The Woodhaven, her home for 5 years, gave Mary the opportunity for a new lease on life as she cultivated dear friendships and fully participated in the recreational activities every day. Everyone knew mom as she was a very popular resident and held court daily on the main floor of the residence with her friends Dorothy, Shirley and Joan. The family extends its deep gratitude to all Woodhaven staff with special mention of those in Unionville Village. Visitation will be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto on Wednesday May 24 from 4-8pm and from 10-11am on Thursday May 25. A funeral service will be held May 25 at 11:00 am at the Mount Pleasant Chapel at 375 Mount Pleasant Road. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Ontario Alzheimer’s Society or the Toronto Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.

So Sorry to hear of Mary's passing. We had no idea where she was over the years. We are the daughter's of the Sinclair family and Mary used to work for our father and babysit us on occasion. We remember her fondly. Our Mother Mildred Sinclair passed away two years ago at 101 yrs of age. We remember Mary living on Richardson St. with her uncle. She certainly is remembered for her great personality and smile. Our sincere sympathy.
